The Stories That Only Your Family Knows

Every family has them.

The story about the time your grandfather got lost driving across the country and ended up somewhere completely unexpected. The thing your grandmother did during a hard year that nobody outside the family ever knew about. The reason your parents almost didn't end up together.

These stories circulate at dinners, at holidays, in the car on long drives. They get told and retold, slightly differently each time, until they become mythology. Until you're not quite sure anymore what actually happened and what got added along the way.

And then, gradually, they stop being told. The people who were there get older. The gatherings get smaller. The stories that once felt permanent turn out to have been more fragile than anyone realized.

The thing about family stories is that they belong to everyone in the family. But they live, specifically, in the people who were there. When those people are gone, the stories go with them. Unless someone thought to write them down.

That's all preservation really is. Writing it down before it's too late. Getting the details right while someone still remembers them. Making sure the mythology stays true.

Memorable Stories was built for exactly this. Start with one person, one life, one set of stories. See what comes back.
